Overview
Cryoablation uses extreme cold to freeze and destroy cancer cells. It is an excellent option for treating small kidney tumors in older patients who may not be good candidates for major surgery.
The Procedure
A thin needle (probe) is inserted through the skin directly into the tumor, guided by CT or ultrasound. Argon gas is circulated through the probe to freeze the tumor tissue.
