Overview
Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT) is the primary procedure used to diagnose, stage, and treat visible bladder tumors. It is performed entirely through the urethra, avoiding external incisions.
The Procedure
A resectoscope (a specialized camera with a wire loop) is inserted into the bladder. The tumor is cut away from the bladder wall, and the area is cauterized to stop bleeding. The removed tissue is sent for analysis.
Recovery
Recovery is generally quick. Patients may have a catheter for a short period. It is a safe and effective option for elderly patients who may not tolerate more invasive surgery.
