Overview
Phimosis is a condition where the foreskin is too tight to be pulled back over the head of the penis (glans). It is normal in babies and toddlers but usually resolves as the child grows.
Symptoms
In older children, phimosis may cause difficulty urinating (ballooning of the foreskin), pain, or recurrent infections (balanitis).
Treatment
Topical Steroids
Applying a steroid cream can help thin and loosen the skin, allowing it to retract.
Circumcision
If conservative measures fail or if there are recurrent infections, circumcision (surgical removal of the foreskin) may be recommended.
