Overview
Bladder cancer begins in the cells of the bladder lining. It is highly treatable when diagnosed early. Regular monitoring is crucial as it has a high rate of recurrence.
Symptoms
- Blood in urine (haematuria)
- Frequent urination
- Painful urination
- Back pain
Diagnosis
Diagnosis involves urine tests, cystoscopy (visual inspection of the bladder), and imaging tests like CT scans. A biopsy (TURBT) is performed to confirm cancer and determine its stage.
Treatment
TURBT
Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor to remove the cancer.
Intravesical Therapy
Medication placed directly into the bladder (e.g., BCG) to kill cancer cells.
Cystectomy
Surgical removal of part or all of the bladder for advanced cases.
