Overview
Nephroscopy is a procedure that allows the urologist to visualize the inside of the kidney using a specialized scope (nephroscope). It is often used as part of PCNL for stone removal.
Indications
- Removal of large kidney stones
- Biopsy or treatment of kidney lining tumors
- Treatment of strictures in the kidney
The Procedure
A small incision is made in the back to create a tract to the kidney. The nephroscope is inserted through this tract to view and treat the condition.
Recovery
Recovery depends on the specific treatment performed. A hospital stay of 1-2 days is common, and a drainage tube may be placed temporarily.
